A hidden gem for birders and campers alike, this park borders Claiborne Lake and draws year-round visitors for its birdwatching, paddling and peaceful overnight stays. When looking up to the sky, you’ll likely spot bobwhites, eastern towhees, northern cardinals and an assembly of seasonal birds.
Red Hills Complex

This Forever Wild track spans more than 5,100 acres and offers a beautiful terrain, hunting access and provides a habitat and home for many rare species of plants and animals. The Red Hills Complex might not be a park, but it’s full of natural beauty waiting for you.
Haines Island Park

This quiet park is perfect for campers, birders and paddlers. Here, you can hike, fish or picnic—and there’s a boat access for those looking to explore the water. During hunting season, some areas of the park are open to hunters, so double check your map and keep an eye out.
Blue Springs State Park

This Alabama hidden gem is becoming less hidden. With a spring-fed pool that stays 68ºF year round, this wiregrass state park is the perfect spot to beat the heat in the pool, camp and enjoy a refreshing summer escape.
Geneva State Forest

Alabama’s largest state forest is used primarily for lumber, but don’t let that steer you away. With 7,200 acres of longleaf pine, it’s also a haven for ATV riding, hiking, fishing, camping and horseback riding.

Millry, AL
This peaceful 84-acre lake is a great place for anglers to reel in a legendary catch. Fish bass, catfish, bream, crappie and more—from the shore or by boat. The lake offers a boat ramp, an ADA-accessible pier, a shaded pavilion and all the quiet you need. Just make sure you bring your fishing license.
Roland Cooper State Park

James E. Grimes River Walk

Escambia County Public Fishing Lake

This 184-acre lake has serious fishing potential and plenty of opportunities to do so. ADA pier, pavilions, concessions and more highlight the lake. Fish bass, bream and sunfish—it’s all fair game here.
Troy University Arboretum

Part of the Pocosin Nature Preserve, this 75-acre arboretum at Troy University features 8 miles of peaceful, easy trails in the wiregrass region. Wildlife sightings are common, and the trails are open from sunrise to sunset.
